Wood Carvings of Birds

Although I’m straying a bit from Capetown’s miniature buildings, I’m including 3 art pieces that I carved and painted in realistic size and color to the actual birds and ducks found on Cape Cod. Each was carved from a square block of tupelo wood with knifes and a Dremel and painted with acrylic paint.

The birds, Black-capped Chickadee (the state bird of Massachusetts) and Tufted Titmouse are realistic carvings with the feathers individually formed with a Dremel. The duck, a female Green-winged Teal, is a decorative decoy that required 15 layers of acrylic paint to form the feathers and other characteristics. Enjoy!
